Snowden | Slow Soft Syrup EP: Free Download

Ever since Snowden's album Anti Anti came out I've been anxiously awaiting their next release. Apparently this EP came out back in March as a free download and just kind of snuck it's way into the hands of the die-hards. You instantly notice it's a lot mellower than Anti Anti and to be honest I'm not sure what to make of that. Anti Anti left some big shoes to fill and this appetizer of possible album B-sides leaves me thinking the next full length is probably on the way.

Pixies | 2004 Coachella Performance: Download

Pixies have a new website they just unveiled this past week, with it they are offering a free download of their return to form at Coachella circa 2004. Has anyone heard the new Pete Yorn album yet? I haven't had a chance to listen to it and since Frank Black/Black Francis produced it I can only assume it's pretty good(?).
K-Double Blog is now on Facebook and Twitter, be our friend on either (or both) to keep up to date on current happenings.

Feist | Look At What The Light Did Now: Documentary

I've always really liked music documentaries, so when I saw this would be coming out fairly soon, on December 7, I have to admit to getting a little excited. Feist made one hell of an album in The Reminder, so if this documentary is a testament to that, I'm thinking it's probably pretty good.

Partizan Darkroom | American Darkroom: Short Film

I am really liking this. The description by the folks that produced this video, Partizan Darkroom, is a lot better than what I could come up with: "Here is American Software, a short film inspired by the towering giants behind the American software industry. That is, if Steve Jobs was a rebellious punk rectangle, with guitar in tow, taking on King Bill through a rock-off within some parallel counter-realist 8-bit geometric vision of our world."

Flying Lotus | Kill Your Co-Workers: Video

If you haven't heard of Flying Lotus, don't be too alarmed I hadn't either. Although his debut album came out in 2006, he was mostly known for creating the music for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming. On his latest album, Cosmogramma, released via WARP, guest artists include Thom Yorke and Ravi Coltrane to create an experimental mixtape of jazz, electronica, hip hop, etc... etc... all while combining live instruments to give it some feeling and soul. Another little known fact to a newbie like myself is he's the great nephew of John Coltrane.

Film School | Sunny Day: Video

I am really digging the new Film School album Fission that came out a couple of months ago. I've never really heard their early stuff and I don't know how this one skipped my new music radar, but I'm glad I happened upon it. California shoegaze with well written pop songs.

Warpaint | Undertow: Video

I really like this song, "Undertow," from L.A's Warpaint. But I have to admit, the first time I heard them was when they opened for Yeasayer at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles. It was a KCRW 89.9 fm sponsored event and it was only memorable because they wouldn't let anyone into the room where the bands were playing and we ate really good pizza before the show at Bollinis. I still like Yeasayer and this song.

Peter Gabriel | Solsbury Hill: Video

I've been on kind of a Peter Gabriel kick lately and just can't get enough of his early material. "Solsbury Hill" is one of my favorite songs and just proves there are still some songs and albums from 1977 that will stand the test of time.

PS22 Chorus Covers MGMT: Kids Video

Straight outta Staten Island, NY, the fifth graders at Public School 22 have done a few previous covers before, but MGMT's "Kids" seems the most appropriate so far. You can never go wrong with a fifth grader that plays drums in an elementary school choir.

Superchunk | Digging for Something - Video

Although I haven't had a chance to check out Superchunk's new album, Majesty Shredding, if the rest of the songs are as good as this one I'll be one happy camper. No Pocky for Kitty remains to be my favorite Superchunk album thus far and the last couple before they called it quits/hiatus didn't really do it for me. So here's to hoping they got their mojo back(?)

Sugarcubes | Birthday: Video

Came across this video and song recently and was thinking they just don't make'em like the Sugarcubes anymore. Bjork is all over the place with her vocal range and on paper it shouldn't work, but it works brilliantly.

White Sea | M83 Breakout - EP Download

I know it's not Monday, but this is really nice. I don't know why, but I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I do. This is a project from Morgan Kibby, aka White Sea, who currently resides in L.A. and also performs with the band M83. The vocals on this EP are fantastic, I guess the story is she wanted to perform all of the music on her own after the tour for M83 ended. Click the above pic to download and/or play.

The Silversun Pickups | The Royal We

I know it's been a long time since the last blog post and I'll explain in another post in the near future. But for now I can say the blog is going to be updated again on a regular basis. I started this Silversun Pickups post awhile back and didn't get a chance to publish it. So better late than never... I still like this song.
